Wretched Wrinkles and Crazy Creases

You assembled all logos, created a beautiful step and repeat design, had the banner printed beautifully, set up the banner stand with the banner on it and everything looks stunning…except, wait…ugh …creases in the banner!

I personally can’t stand wrinkles and creases. If I’m going to go through all of the work of designing and setting up a step and repeat, I want it to be perfect.

Unfortunately, the banner material, unlike a rigid media wall surface, is flexible and prone to wrinkles and creases.

However, there are ways to avoid the nasty buggers. In my experience dealing with step and repeat backdrops, I’ve come across the following techniques to prevent wrinkles:

  1. ALWAYS roll up the banner on a tube.
  2. Never fold the banner up like you would a sheet
  3. When transporting a banner rolled up on a tube, do not bungee cord it to the truck rails.  It’s best to cover the banner with plastic and then place it in a cardboard box before transporting.
  4. Do not put anything heavy on the banner tube as it will create a dent very easily.
  5. And I have saved the best tip for last: ZIP TIES! Zip ties are a backdrop’s best friend. Seriously. They will take almost every single wrinkle out of the banner. Make sure the banner is fabricated with grommets (little metal holes) on the sides of the banner. Then take a black zip tie and loop it through the grommet in the banner and around the vertical stand poles and tighten.  You will be surprised that there are no more wrinkles!
